i think they forgot to add a few more pictures before it was published.

i was really excited about this book, so i pre-ordered it... i'm wishing i had looked through it before purchasing. it's basically one big tease. most cabins featured in it only have a few accompanying photos. barely any detail shots of the interiors or exteriors- you see a couple pics and you get all excited, only to be utterly disappointed when you turn the page and they've already moved on to the next one.

High Quality Writing that Sometimes Becomes a Little Too Long

I bought this as I've been doing an Article Writing course. This seemed like a good idea as it would expose me to quality articles. It did. The articles in themselves are very interesting and worth reading for their own sake. The topics are widely varied, as would be expected given that the book draws together the top articles from a variety of sources. Many articles have won awards.

The one criticism I would make is that many articles are very long, almost short stories. Perhaps I've been corrupted by the 'bite-sized' articles that are more common online and in newspapers these days but still some of these seemed very long even if they were printed in magazines. That's not to say that they were not enjoyable - very much the opposite. Just don't expect to sit and read for five minutes, then get up having completed an article.

Oh yes, they certainly did help me improve my own writing...

About the Author
Bonnie G. Berger is professor and director of the School of Human Movement, Sport, & Leisure Studies at the Bowling Green State University in Ohio. Bonnie is a charter member, fellow, and certified consultant of the Association for the Advancement of Applied Sport Psychology (AAASP). Within AAASP, she has served as chair of the Certification Review Committee, and Health Psychology section chair. Robert S. Weinberg is a professor in the Department of Physical Education, Health, and Sport Studies at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. Before coming to Miami University, Weinberg was a professor in the Department of Kinesiology at the University of North Texas from 1978-1992 including Regents Professor from 1988-1992, Regents Faculty Lecturer in 1989 and Toulouse Scholar in 1990.Robert C. Eklund, PhD is presently a Professor and Chair in Physical Activity and Health in the School of Sport at the University of Stirling in Scotland although he served as the Distinguished Professor of Sport Psychology in the Department of Educational Psychology and Learning Systems at Florida State University in Tallahassee Florida while working on chapters for this book.

This book is a good introduction to Ketogenic Diet. The plan provided is easy to follow though it would really take effort and perseverance to do so. Changing lifestyle is never easy. With this book, all you have to do is follow the recipes or meals provided and so you are on your way to ketogenic diet. The 30-day plan consist of about 50 ketogenic fat burning recipes that you and your family will surely enjoy. When you master this diet..eventually you will be able to mix up your own recipe or meal and not limit yourself with what was provided by the book. Good thing that this book serves as a reference.

A ketogenic diet book that offers fat burning recipes for rapid weight loss and unstoppable energy, wow! These are really interesting and making me want to read this book ASAP! Great book about ketogenic diet! What I like about this book is that it has the basic introduction on what is the ketogenic diet all about. I have learned a lot from this book, aside from those 30 days meal plan that the author has offered. The way that instruction for every dish was written is like in a narrative form, like the author is speaking to you. It is a very informative book.

About the Author
Hugh Milne is a third-generation Scottish osteopath. He spends most of professional time teaching visionary craniosacral work in Germany, Italy, Japan, the United States, and Switzerland. He was born in 1948 and received his professional training at the British College of Naturopathy and Osteopathy in London. Repeated and startling clairvoyant revelations before and after graduation led to a determination to learn more about working with the inner eye. This search for higher teachings took him to India, where he lived for seven years. Hugh spent the last fifteen years developing his teaching work. He lives in Big Sur, California, where he is the director of the Milne Institute.

A beautiful book on the pure poetry of healing

This generous book offers stories on healing and awakening from various traditions, both ancient and modern. It puts cranial sacral therapy in place in a long tradition of ancient practices. The author is extremely well read, eloquent, and a fascinating storyteller. When I need inspiration as a healer, I go to this work. It can be read at a surface level for beginners, and there are thousands of opportunities to go deeper for more advanced practitioners. One of my favorite books, and I've read so so many.

I would not recommend this book to students or faculty involved with the ...

This book is extremely poorly written, with no heed for spelling, grammar, or transitions. Every time I read it I find myself checking to see if I have turned one page too many because the ideas flow so poorly. Content-wise the book chiefly describes common-sense deductions even a layperson would know. It is filled with examples of "current" events which are dated, bordering on irrelevant, in light of more recent legislation (SOX, Dodd Frank, ETC). I would not recommend this book to students or faculty involved with the study of accounting, systems, or audit.

One of the Better IT Auditing Books

As a subject, IT auditing can be difficult to find many good books on. First of all, there really are not that many books on the subject to begin with. Second, the books that do exist are often not written very well. Finally, to compound the problem, IT auditing can be a tough subject to write about in the first place since a lot of it comes down to professional opinion and judgment. That being said, _Information Technology Control and Audit_ largely succeeds in its goal of being a "bible" of sorts in this particular subject area.

Now let us admit first off that the book itself is rather dull and boring looking, so it is not likely to win any awards in graphic design any time soon. The cover is essentially monotone, and the rest of the book is, as well. Additionally, few illustrations are used besides some basic diagrams and tables thrown in every once in a while. In short, I definitely feel as if they could have livened up the presentation of the book a little more.

From a content perspective, though, the book mostly shines as it deals with a wide variety of subjects. Chapters 1 through 3 provide a good foundation for the rest of the book by delving into the history and evolution of IT auditing. Chapter 4 then discusses IT auditing as it relates to IT system development. Chapters 5 through 8 get a little more technical and talk about auditing various IT systems, from applications to networks. Chapters 9 through 13 cover IT auditing from the standpoint of IT operations. Finally, chapters 14 through 17 go into some "emerging issues" in IT auditing, such as the legal environment, security and privacy, career planning and development, and the future of IT auditing.

Overall, the book is well written, although at times it can come off a little dry (probably on account of the subject itself). I appreciated the beginning primer on auditing since that is one of my weaker areas. I also found the emerging issues section to be quite useful and interesting. In reading a book on IT auditing, I don't think that most readers would expect an author to cover such subjects all the time, so they were like icing on the proverbial cake. Along these lines, several helpful appendices are also provided, such as one on professional standards that apply to IT.

Wrapping things up, I would also point out that some of the examples, technology, issues, and terminology (such as Y2K) seem a bit outdated, but I understand that a new edition has come out that might resolve some of these problems. (Note that I am reviewing the first edition.) Otherwise, the book provides a plethora of helpful examples. The author does not just talk about a subject; he usually tries to bring it to life and add realism through the examples.

All in all, this is probably one of the better IT auditing books available right now. Rating: 4 out of 5.

Excellent resource for Auditors and Security Professionals

The text gives a good background of Information Systems Auditing methodology and best practices. Although some of the examples of Computer Auditing Tools and references to Y2k issues are a bit dated, I recommend this text as a must read for anyone deciding to enter into the IS Auditing field and should be on the shelf of any security professional who wishes to understand IS Auditing practices. I look forward to seeing an updated version of ITCA which includes more in-depth discussions about the impact of Sarbanes-Oxley and other sweeping legislation, updated information about tools and security hazards to be on the lookout for in the course of an audit and more emphasis on incorporating CoBIT into auditing plans.

This book is just the right size for the camping kit, backpack, briefcase, or glove compartment. Further, I am impressed with the physical quality and durability of its construction. These comments may seem trivial until one fully appreciates the usefulness of this piece. As usual, Lubkemann's writing is clear and concise, giving the reader the feeling that he truly intends to be understood. The photographic illustrations are clear and uncluttered, and the "Tip Boxes" inset periodically throughout the text are helpful and entertaining. The ideas and projects presented are complete and can stand alone, but, more that that, serve as a springboard for one's own ideas and whittling designs. This is a true benchmark of good writing, in my opinion. My eleven-year-old son and I have already discussed whittling some "fancier" hot dog roasting sticks for a spring campout. I'm glad I own both of Lubkemann's books and would be hard-pressed to choose between them. My recommendation is to purchase both titles and save the shipping costs.

Great way to spend some time decompressing...

I love to camp and a friend gave me this book along with a Swiss Army Knife...I never saw myself as a "whittler" and now I'm hooked. The projects are fun, easy, and don't require a whole lot more than some twigs and some sitting still. And a bonus -- it includes useful camping tips and delicious recipes for outdoor staples such as peanut butter smores, gorp, and lemonade.

Great Beginners Book for Whittling and Other Outdoor Knowledge

I was so impressed by this little book that I bought a copy for each of my adult children, along with a Victorinox Swiss Army Tinker, and a few other sharpening tools and materials, as well as a block of Basswood. They will be admonished to learn this skill and when the time is right, pass the skill and tools along to my grandchildren... or let me enjoy doing so.
This is the first of two great books I have found for learning to whittle; the other is Whittlin' Whistles by Rick Wiebe. Both of these books are filled with illustrations and detail of technique for maintaining your pocketknife to whittle as well as be successful in the projects. On-line one can find instructions for whittling a whistle, a ball in cage, and other items, but a well-illustrated book is more effective. Another booklet I have found is Whittling for Beginners by Salty; this is available only from select Woodcarving stores.
Lubkemann's book is a great resource for not only teaching the skill of whittling, but also it offers snippets of outdoorsman and woodlore knowledge covering a very broad range of topics - reminiscent of the Boy Scout Handbook or Field Book of years ago.
Ten of his 90 pages cover topics of pocket knife selection (he prefers the versatility of the Swiss Army Tinker), sharpening, and whittling cutting techniques. Lubkemann's projects are drawn from art and utility from the out-of-doors, covering spoon, fork, spreader, carved figures, walking stick, sling-shot, whistle, and more. His raw material is the fallen branches found almost everywhere except for the densest urban setting.
Highly recommended.
